SWEEP BACK TO SWEEP THROUGH

I like to sweep the ball cleanly off the turf with the clubhead moving absolutely level with the ground at the moment of impact. I don’t like to pinch the ball off the turf, and I sure as heck don’t want to hit up on the ball as I do with my driver. To encourage this level angle of approach, I take the clubhead away from the ball in the same manner I want it to swing through on the downswing—low to the ground with a nice, wide arc. This not only promotes the right swing path and angle of approach, it establishes good tempo and smooth rhythm.

From light rough, you’ll find a fairway wood is much easier to hit than a long iron.
